Friendly reminder that I booked a show and it would mean the absolute world to me if y’all came out to it! It’s on Wednesday May 14th at Bowery Electric with Bindy, Russian Baths, and Couvo. Get your ticket early so the venue keeps letting me do all these fun things we’ve been doing there! Doors are going to be at 6pm so we can have happy hour from 6-7:30pm and then music will start! It’s going to be a super fun night of music and friendship and connecting! Next free meetup will most likely be in June, so keep posted here for more info about that.
Last week was a slow gig week for me, I only went to one show, which is very out of character for me, but I had some friendship things I needed to do. I did manage to catch Le Keep and Carrying at Night Club 101 which was a really good show. Carrying really impressed me, they were giving Midwest Emo in the best way possible, that I’ve been missing out on. Le Keep also put on a great set, frontman Steele had to take to the drums for the show, which was fun for me as I’ve known Steele since he was drumming in The Britanys. I definitely will be checking out a Le Keep show again to see what the set is like when he’s at the front of the stage, but it was a fun change-up to experience.

What’s going on this week?
This week’s Torture Tuesday is murder mystery themed, think the Clue movie or the Westin Game. Dress up to the theme if you can, but really just show up because it’s going to be a great night. As per usual. Torture will be playing a set towards the end of the night, but joining her on stage will be Truman Flyer of The Living Roomers, McKenzie of Trophy Wife, Abby Jeanne, Roísín McKeown, and a drag performance by Baby Long Legs. It’s an iconic lineup of incredibly talented people and a Tuesday night not to be missed out on. Then, on Wednesday, head out to the BedStuy/Bushwick border to catch Pig Milk, Desk Job, Mikah, and Mira at The Broadway.
Thursday is a big day of gigs, including two free options and the possibility to do a double header (which we all know I love). In the city we have Bad Head’s biggest headline show to date at Nublu with support from Doolittle, Veronica, and Clay St. Over in Brooklyn Liv of By Liv Handmade is returning to music and playing a free show at Cobra Club along with Leo Sawikin, and Whaat. Later that night, at 10:30pm, Monobloc are playing a free gig at Alphaville with support from screenager. Monobloc are one of the local bands I am most excited about at the moment, and we just spoke to them for Name 3 Songs and had an incredible conversation that I’m really excited to share with y’all when we relaunch this summer!
The free gigs don’t end on Thursday this week, on Friday you can check out some really sick punk bands in Washington Square Park for free. From 2pm til 6pm you can go mosh in your least favorite TikTok creators favorite park to some very talented local NYC artists. Bodega are headlining, Native Sun (another personal fave of mine) are playing, as well as TVOD and T!LT. Show Brain are putting this gig on and will continue to fill parks with talented local artists throughout the summer, so if you’re not following them on socials yet, get on that so you can be in the know with which parks to be hanging out in this summer.
Friday night make your way to Arlene’s Grocery for Tom Diognardi, Mark Dylan, The Underbites, Spread Eagle. On Saturday we have two very cool options, one gig that’s not local artists, but some sad boys who have peaked my interest lately, M.A.G.S and Covey, and the gig is at a venue I somehow haven’t heard of before, Soho Live. It still meets the price parameter I set for the newsletter, so I’m sharing it with y’all anyway. BUT, if you want to check out some local acts, Connie Danger, Chaser Eight, Small, A Very Special Episode, are playing at Our Wicked Lady. Round your week off with a Sunday night gig at Purgatory out in Brooklyn. Bowling Shoes, Nara’s Room, and Trash Rabbit are playing, and a sure fire way to escape the Sunday Scaries is to go to a gig with your friends.
What else is up?
During New Colossus Festival I got the pleasure to film a lyric video for Australian based pop-punk band Bakers Eddy which was honestly some of the most fun I’ve had in awhile. Getting to be creative in a fast paced environment that wasn’t a gig for the first time in what felt like ages was something I didn’t realise I missed so much until I was in the thick of it. Anyway, the song is really great and the video was really fun to film, so I thought I’d share it with y’all!
Otherwise, if you have a gig you want me to know about, please submit it to this Google form so I don’t forget about it for the spreadsheet. Again, these are just suggestions and I am curating the show list, so if your gig doesn’t make it this time, it definitely could in the future!
I’ll be at Baker Falls tonight and definitely checking out Monobloc on Thursday, so hopefully I’ll catch y’all at a rock show this week!
xoxo Sara
