Gig Roundup June 24th-29th
Sunday is community-building day everyone, so come out to Bowery Electric after 6:30pm to make new friends, connect with fellow creatives, find gig buddies, and just actively take part in a growing community with the backbone of loving music and NYC. The event is free, drink deals will be happening, and there’s not really a curfew, so there’s no excuse not to come hang out. RSVP to the Partiful to stay informed on the event!
This past week was all hands on deck for the relaunch of my podcast, Name 3 Songs, so I took a backseat from going to gigs. Everything I had planned I basically vetoed and just hunkered down behind my computer screen to work on things. If you’re not subscribed to that Substack yet, it would mean a lot to me if you followed along. I did want to share some of pics from the other week seeing Noelle Sux & The Millionaires at Market Hotel cause I finally had a second to edit them, and I did see my buddies in Carrying at Elsewhere on Sunday which was a perfect night of emo music for my soul. So enjoy these…

What’s going on this week?
Tonight’s rendition of Torture Tuesday should NOT be missed. Two of my favorite guys, Ben Roter from Quarters of Change and Alex Gomez from The Backfires, are performing acoustic sets. This is a pretty special opportunity that you’re not going to want to miss out on, so definitely head over to Baker Falls immediately after work to guarantee a spot at the community hang. And, on top of these wonderful guys performing, we have Torture’s bandmate Aidan performing his solo project music, as well as (and as per usual) a set from Torture herself, AKA the most talented singer in maybe all five boroughs.
Wednesday you can head to Night Club 101 to check out The Sewing Club, Glimmer & Heaven Slight. I haven’t ever seen any of these bands before, but I have heard good things and did listen to some of all of their music before suggesting this, so I think y’all will enjoy this one.
The two-year anniversary of DNA NYC is happening at Bowery Electric this Thursday. These nights are always a party and a great way to discover local music. This celebratory rendition of the night features The 3rd Street Band, Rlyblonde, Hana Bookman, Belle And Chain, and Nikita Lev, as well as a DJ set by our girlie Maura Brennan. This definitely should be a fun night! But for those of you Brooklyn kids that don’t want to deal with the commute on top of this week’s weather, I don’t blame you really, your option is a non-local show that I’m hyped about. Sultan Room is hosting a showcase by +1 Records featuring Pool Girl and Wet World ,+ I think one or two other acts. This should be a cool night of great music, I highly recommend it!
Friday, y’all should all head out to Main Drag Music for a chance to see Russian Baths play. If you missed out on my showcase last month, I forgive you, but you did miss out on seeing a great band.
On Saturday, we are overwhelmed with choice. You COULD spend all night at Alphaville, see Panik Flower, Sungaze, Tooth Lures a Fang, and Jeerleader play, get some chicken nuggets or something, then go see Nautics, The Dutch Kills, and Bec Lauder for free. To me, that sounds like a perfect night out in Brooklyn. Panik Flower are genuinely SUCH a good band, and y’all know that Nautics are one of my faves. If I go out on Saturday, this is 100% where I will be found hanging. But, if you don’t want to leave NYC, there’s also a really cool free event at Bowery Electric to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Antone’s, an iconic nightclub in Austin, Texas.
You can then round your week off on Sunday with either a stop at Our Wicked Lady to see Abby Roper, Tomorrowish, and Williams. Or, heading to Ridgewood to hang at Trans Pecos and see Oolong, Cronies, Ultra Deluxe, and Holiem. While I will say I think that your Sunday should be spent with me at Bowery Electric hanging out, I won’t take it personally if you decide you’d rather stay in Brooklyn and go to a gig.
What else is up?
This section is literally just dedicated to my Podcast now. But, instead, I’m going to let you guys on to the latest NYC playlist I made. After a year and a half of attending local gigs at least twice a week, I’ve discovered so many new artists I’m excited about that I need to world to be made aware of. So I made a new playlist of the bands I’ve been impressed with the most during my time getting familiar with the local talent in NYC. So I hope you enjoy this, and maybe discover somebody new through it!
With all that, I’m so excited to see some familiar faces and meet some new people this Sunday at Bowery Electric! If you can’t make this meetup, there definitely will be another one soon. With all the gigs happening this week, I really hope to catch y’all at a rock show real soon.
xoxo Sara
