We have a BIG week of gigs ahead of us, which is always incredibly exciting. But, before we get into that, some announcements!! The next meetup is happening at Bowery Electric next Monday, April 21st! It’ll start at 7pm and go until around midnight. This time is a little bit different than last time, as a show is also going on that night. So when you get to the door, either show them the Partiful Invite, or tell them you’re here for the music meetup rather than the gig, as this is still a free event. This time we’re having the get together in the back room, so that way our yapping won’t interupt the gig, so when you get into the venue, go towards the bathrooms and hang a left and you’ll get to the room we’re using for our friendship connection time! You’re also more than welcome to go check out the gig, but the focus of the night should still be community building like it was last time! I’m really excited to meet more of you and see some familiar faces as well.
Announcement number 2 is that I booked another showcase!!! This one is going to be Wednesday May 14th at Bowery Electric! Bindy, Russian Baths, and Couvo are playing, along with maybe some special surprises as well. We’re going to be doing doors at 6pm instead of 7pm to have happy hour hang out time until music starts at 7:30, so definitely come straight from work to hang out! You can get tickets here, and we might be doing a discount ticket deal for people who come to the meet up on Monday, so stay tuned for that as well!
Along with all that, this past week was a beautiful week of friendship and music. Girl and Girl are over stateside from Australia for a month-and-a-half-long tour with Naked Giants, it was so great to see SXSW friends killing it on one of my favorite stages in Brooklyn, Baby’s All Right. On Friday I caught Wetsuit, Laveda, and Colatura at Baby’s All Right which was a rocking girl power night that I loved every minute of. Saturday was a surprise trip to Brooklyn Paramount to catch The Walters, and then Sunday I saw God at the Daniel Seavey show (I wish I was joking). As y’all probably know, I am a SUCKER for good pop music, but even more so, I am in awe of any artist who truly knows how to BE a pop star, and man does Daniel Seavey know how to be a pop star. I hadn’t seen fan service this wild since Harry Styles. Not only is he so talented of a singer, performer, and instrumentalist, but he is also so good at making his fans feel included and important. Even having seen Harry Styles before, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced something quite as well-executed as Daniel Seavey’s fan interactions. At least 10 girls went home feeling delusional about him in the best way possible. I thought I was immune to boy band/pop star charms, but he got me good. Somebody hire an Etsy witch to give Daniel Seavey every ounce of Benson Boone’s fame ASAP.

So what’s happening this week?
As I said, a TON of shows to look forward to. No Torture Tuesday tonight because she’s frickin headlining at Mercury Lounge on Wednesday night!!! If you’ve been enjoying Torture’s weekly Tuesday residency, then you HAVE to get out to Mercury Lounge to experience a full band Torture and the Desert Spiders set. Long, another band I think are incredibly good, are also playing, along with Star’s Revenge, a first-time experience for me. Would love to see as many of you at this gig as possible. Might grab drinks at Victoria beforehand, keep posted on my IG Stories to see if that’s happening!
Thursday night at Sultan Room we have an incredible lineup featuring Two-Man Giant Squid. And after that you can head into Williamsburg for a fun free night at Desert 5 Spot. Bec Lauder is playing, and if you caught Torture’s full band set at Night Club 101 the other month, you’ll recognize Lonestar Mo as one of her bassists! So come ride a mechanical bull and try your hand at two-step dancing in every millennials favorite Brooklyn neighborhood.
Friday we are spoiled for choice, partygirl are headlining at Sultan Room and it’s their album release show! They always put on an incredible show, and since this is a celebratory one it makes it extra special to attend this one. Also happening on Friday is My Son The Doctor headlining at Market Hotel with support from Deadtooth and OK Cowgirl. So head to the infamous Myrtle Ave fast food triangle and make your way into the hotel for a rock show not to be missed. There’s also an incredibly cool Warehouse party gig happening in East Williamsburg featuing Jack Xander, Sid Simons, and more!
On Saturday night Nautics are having their EP release show at Mercury Lounge, this is the late show, so be prepared for a party night out, but definitely get there on time so you can catch all 3 acts and it’s a fully local bill. We have Bec Lauder and Loose Buttons (will Jon Hamm finally make an appearance? You’ll only know if you show up!) as support, so you know it’s going to be a great time.
Then round your week off on Sunday with Deli Mag’s Magazine Fair at Baby’s All Right. This is an all day long event that costs less than $25, features DJ sets, live bands, and opportunities to check out hard copy local media. What more could you ask for!? Go for the culture, stay for the vibes!
What else is new?
My fave UK band, The Amazons, released another incredible single off an album I cannot WAIT for the whole world to hear. If you’re not already listening to this band, I really don’t know what’s wrong with you. Night After Night is such an incredible rock song… just experience it for yourself
Otherwise, I’m just prepping for the meet up next Monday and a whole week of gigs ahead of me! So hopefully I’ll see y’all at a rock show this week!
xoxo Sara
