Things are about to come to a quick halt when it comes to gigs in the city, but first, we have a week FILLED with gigs to prepare for. As a chronically online person, my week has started off insane due to the capture of the alleged United Healthcare Assassin and him being a conventionally attractive very online Gen Z man from a good Italian family. What a time to be alive y’all! I can barely remember what I got up to last week if I’m honest. I feel like I went to gigs, but I think I started my week off with music and then just had a friendship-filled weekend. I did FINALLY have a Julian Casablancas sighting though which honestly will have me giggling for weeks to come, mainly because he was doing exactly what I’d expected I’d see him out doing… being on a date with a very youthful looking woman. One thing an over 40-year-old band guy is going to be doing is dating someone who could be their daughter!!
In kind of depressing local music news and more proof of the capitalist hellscape we’re living in, beloved Brooklyn venue Our Wicked Lady is in trouble and needs our help. They posted an Instagram Reel detailing how they’ve been struggling “post” COVID and are at risk of having to close the venue. While they look for investors or in-line buyers for the space, they’ve launched a GoFundMe to help keep the space open for as long as possible. If you have the means please donate, the venue is an asset to the music community and losing another venue would be a travesty.
And with that, let’s look at what we have to look forward to this week!
What’s going on in New York Citayyyy?
There’s a lot we can be doing this week, and if you check your email before the work day is over cause you need plans for tonight, Tuesday the 10th, you’re in luck. British indie rockers, bby, are headlining at Main Drag Music in Williamsburg and there are still tickets available! If it’s too late though, that’s ok, because we have the whole week ahead of us and SO many gigs to choose from. Wednesday there’s a sick roof show at Our Wicked Lady featuring Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet, MayQueen and more. Or we also have Mark Dylan, Bad Head and Bec Lauder at the Rabbit Hole with a charity drive happening, so bring old jackets, canned food and toys for those in need! Also on Wednesday Oxer are headlining over at Trans Pecos with support from Book/Spirit, Linda Gardens and Gilah!
Thursday you can head to Heaven Can Wait or Arlene’s Grocery for two sick gig options. Or later in the night bby and Telescreens are playing a Le Bain (which is literally the bane of my existence, but the pool won’t be open so maybe the vibes will be better??) and while the venue is sus, the bands are great, so maybe we all should spend our evening in Meat Packing/Chelsea/The West Village/whatever we want to call it to make it seem chicer than it is. Then Friday we have OPTIONS, personally I’m going to be at Brooklyn Steel for Quarters of Change’s 2nd annual homecoming show, but that gig costs way more than $20 so it’s not on the spreadsheet lol. BUT before that, I am making a pit-stop at Alphaville to catch Couvo’s set at 8pm, he’s playing with Moon Sand Land and Namesake in a Local Bops Presents gig, and if Local Bops put the lineup together, you know it’s going to be a damn good night.
Other Friday night options include The Upsides headlining at Sultan Room, and insanely stacked lineup at Music Hall of Williamsburg, which is over $20 but not THAT much over, so it’s on the sheet… The Thing, Native Sun and Malick Koly are playing there. We also have a fundraiser for the Palestinian Children Relief Fund at Empire Stage featuring Snoozr, Um, Jennifer?, Surgeon General and weathergirl. Then onto Saturday, we are also spoiled for choice, Pan Arcadia are putting on a Rock the Pantry Benefit Show at “The Shack” which you can DM them, or me, or like anybody on the lineup, for the address to. Pan are playing alongside Bec Launder, Dune Blue, Jackson from Telescreens, Connor from Cab Ellis and so many more, it starts at 1pm and goes all day! In the evening Local Weatherman are putting on a holiday party show featuring Self Help, The Alabasters and a DJ set by Panik Flower at Rubulad. Honeysucker are headlining at Union Pool and The Dutch Kills are headlining over at Arlene’s Grocery. There’s an option for everyone is every cool neighborhood of the city.
On to Sunday, BandsdoBK also are throwing a Holiday Party over at Arlene’s Grocery featuring Jelly Kelly, BRODEO, Friendly Company and Outer Shapes. And then next Monday we can start the week at Arlene’s with Lady Lychee, Aim for the Bushes and Shannon Summers.
A jam packed week in NYC, seems like it’s the last really busy week we’ll be having before the new year, but keep your eyes peeled for updates if you’re going to be staying in the city for the holidays because we do have SOME shows for us locals who are staying put!
What else is new?
Spotify wrapped dropped, my top 100 playlist is majority songs from my NYC rock playlist which was cute. A lot of friends were in my top 20 artists list, also cute. I love being on brand. My stats were GREATLY impacted by the sudden and tragic passing of Liam Payne, One Direction came in at my top 3rd most listened to artists… I think I listened to them maybe max 2 hrs all of 2024 before October 16th. Such is life. I’ll share more intricate data when 2024 wrapped drops on my beloved last.fm at the top of 2025.
If you’ve made it to the end, congrats, here’s a partiful link for potential drinks on December 18th. Have not picked a location yet, will confirm once I know how many people are interested in coming out!
As per usual, anything you want me to know about hit me up on IG sara_feigin or email me at hey@sarafeigin.com. Hopefully catch you at a rock show real soon!
